I have the true privilegeof sitting in church most Sundays right behind a couple with a baby boy they recently adopted. He is such a cutie! I enjoy watching my friends as they nurture him with affection and formula. What a joy to see their dreams of having a son fulfilled! And oh, how my heart is captivated by the charming smiles from this little guy…he will be a real heartthrob someday as a teen!
There is something about a baby’s expression that reveals complete innocence and newness of life. It’s so refreshing. Babies have no inhibitions, no hindrances, no fears to exploring the new world around them…as long as mom or dad is nearby.
Babies are such a welcome invasion in our lives, giving us a momentary glimpse of our own past and the generation to come. They give us hope for the future, a chance to pass along our own traditions and heritage and faith.
I pray that all the people of our nation will see little babies—the ones already with us and the yet-to-be-born—as the gifts God has ordained for us since before the world began. I pray that more young women caught in the throes of unplanned pregnancy will choose life for their little ones. Jesus loves the little children…all the children of the world.
Lord God, thank You for bringing us into Your kingdom as little children, blessing us with Your love and mercy. Thank You for the joy that babies bring to us, and teach us how to nurture them in our community. Bless all young moms and dads of infants, dealing with the fatigue that comes with the territory—give these parents the grace to love and raise their children well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
