The Privileged Life: The Prayers of Loved Ones

IMG_7716“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” Colossians 1:9

I’ve had a rough day. It started with a bad dream at 5 a.m. that kept me awake and haunted me most of the day. A shortage of sleep can really mess with your mind and attitude!

But one of the comforts of the day was knowing that someone was…in fact, several someones were…praying for me.

I’ve been part of “Moms in Prayer” groups for more than 15 years. While the purpose of this fellowship is to pray for our schoolchildren, my current group has grown through the years to praying for each other as well.

What a privilege and an encouragement! We share requests with each other on Mondays, and even when absent at times, it’s a privilege to lift each other and our families up to the Lord.

Most importantly, my husband was praying for me as well. In spite of his busy schedule at work, he knew my day wasn’t going particularly well and checked in with me a couple of times to let me know he was thinking of me.

When we pray for others, it’s an honor to take their issues, problems, joys, praises, and worship before the Lord. It connects us not only with God but also with His family of loved ones, the “body” of Jesus Christ here on earth. When we pray for the lost, we are engaging in a tremendous sacrifice and spiritual warfare on their behalf…it’s a high calling.

Next time you know someone is praying for you, lift up a prayer of thanksgiving to God for this demonstration of love. Thank Him for your loved ones!

Loving Lord, I thank You today for my friends, family, and husband who consistently pray for me. I thank You for the privilege of praying for others before Your throne. I thank You for the answers You provide daily in response to our prayers! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
