The Privileged Life: Water

F4B2B8A1-7578-4BEC-AD5A-F176604FFF67.jpeg“…whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14

If you’ve ever drunk water from a clear, icy mountain creek, you know how good it tastes on a hot summer day.

The artesian spring behind my mom’s 200-year-old birthplace in Appalachian Alabama produces a constant flow of the purest water I’ve ever tasted…makes awesome iced sweet tea! (That’s a Southern thing…very important….)

Whenever I read the story of Jesus speaking with the woman at the well, promising His “living water,” I picture that Alabama artesian spring, crystal clear and nourishing, a fountain of life for those who built the old home near it. It reminds me that when we plant our hearts close to Christ, we have constant access to the “living water” of His Holy Spirit, giving us the abundant life we desire. It’s a foretaste, too, of the river of life in heaven, described in Revelation. What a wonderful promise for us to enjoy someday, where we will never thirst again!

Dear Jesus, thank You for giving us abundant life here on earth and the promise of “living water” from Your Holy Spirit. Let us drink deeply every day as we build our lives closer to You. In Your name, Amen.
